Artisans of Leisure: India for Foodies – a Culinary Tour

(12 Days – Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur, MumbaiIndia’s cuisines vary greatly by region, and are some of the most delicious and popular in the world. Explore the tastes of three of India’s most gastronomically intriguing regions—Delhi, Rajasthan and Mumbai—while staying in the country’s most luxurious hotels and enjoying private touring of the highlights of each city.

Begin in Delhi, the bustling capital of India. During private touring, experience highlights such as Humayun’s Tomb, the Lodi Gardens, and a rickshaw ride through the bazaars of Old Delhi, as well as upscale shopping districts. One day, enjoy a private market visit and cooking class.

(For those interested, a night in Agra to see the Taj Mahal can be added after Delhi, upon request.)

Continue to nearby Jaipur, Rajasthan’s great “Pink City.” See the rich architectural legacy of Jaipur’s merchants and maharajas (Hindu princes)—hill forts, palaces, gardens, the observatory, temples and havelis (courtyard mansions)—surrounded by stark desert. Ride an elephant to Amber Fort, then take a private cooking class. Browse bazaars selling textiles, leatherwork, woodblock prints, perfume, jewelry and Jaipur’s traditional blue pottery.

Spend three nights in Udaipur, India’s most romantic city, among the grand arches and courtyard gardens of the beautiful Oberoi Udaivilas. Cruise Lake Pichola and walk through picturesque backstreets, shop for local folk art, tour the City Palace, Jagdish Temple, the Saheliyon Ki Bari Garden, and browse the local bazaars. Also enjoy a private cooking class at a local home. On a day excursion outside the city, tour the spectacular Jain temples of Ranakpur, where relief carvings cover every surface, including over 1,400 pillars, and have a memorable gourmet lunch at a spectacular palace.

The tour concludes with three nights in exciting Mumbai (Bombay), India’s economic capital and the home of the Bollywood film industry. Tour the city’s cultural attractions, bazaars and most interesting neighborhoods, enjoy a private market visit and cooking class, and take a private boat ride to the Elephanta Island Caves—inside are extensive Hindu stone sculptures linked to the cult of Shiva.
