Belém is one of the highlights of any visit to Lisbon. The magnificent Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower, jewels of the Portuguese Manueline style from the early 16th century – both Unesco World Heritage sites – are located there. But Belém, besides the heritage, the museums and the gardens and parks, is also famous for being custard tart territory.
Home of the famous and unmissable café, Pastéis de Belém, the original place that started baking custard tarts (using a recipe from the nearby monastery) or as we say in Portuguese pastéis de nata, one of our most popular cakes and possibly our most famous food creation in the world.
It’s also a neighbourhood full of life and other delicious cakes, including other award-winning custard tarts that we will taste with a glass of moscatel.
In this tour we introduce you not only to the best pastéis de nata in Lisbon but also to some delicious savoury “petiscos”, including a dish of fish or meat, with a tasting of wine.
We’ll also take you to the iconic Tower of Belém gardens.
