Tinned fish, wine and ginjinha, suckling pig and other “petiscos”

We will take you to taste some of the traditional specialities of the country. A journey through some Portuguese flavours.

Tinned Portuguese fish, internationally recognized for its quality, has inspired local chefs to create new recipes. On this tour, you will try what are considered great “petiscos” in a place whose owner is also the author of an award-winning cookbook. Sardines, mackerel or mussels, here you’ll find a range of different flavours.

Then you can sample traditional ginjinha (sour cherry brandy) and visit the old city market.

And to get an idea of the versatility of the wines of Portugal, we’ll visit a cellar for some wine tastings, namely Port or Moscatel.

Then we will take you to taste the liqueurs, jams and cheeses of the Azores islands.

And we will finish in a typical lisboan “tasca” to taste the traditional Bairrada suckling pig sandwich and another delicious savoury “petisco”, accompanied by draught beer (an imperial) or a glass of vinho verde, or as most locals do there with a lovely lemonade. And then a custard tart in one of the best bakeries in the city.

Eat Drink Walk Lisbon: GinjinhaTour – Lisbon, Portugal

One of this company’s tours was reviewed by FoodTourFinder
See our review here!

In this tour we get to know one of the most traditional drinks of Lisbon, ginjinha, a liqueur made with aguardente and sour cherries.

Over the course of about three hours, we walk through some of the more famous areas of the city, including Rossio, Terreiro do Paço and Restauradores.

It is thought that ginjinha was introduced to Portugal by a Galician friar and continues to be a tradition in our country. It is especially popular in Lisbon and Óbidos.

We will visit the oldest and most iconic taverns, and also a place where ginjinha is served in edible chocolate cups, a new trend that started with the Chocolate Festival in Óbidos. We’ll have time also for a pastel de nata (custard tart).

In all locations you will taste a shot, com elas ou sem elas (literally with or without them, the cherries, that is).

And for “soaking up” this strong liqueur, we enjoy some true and traditional Portuguese delicacies, including suckling pig, in a old “tasca”, now renovated.

Hours: Monday to Saturday, around three hours.

Price: 45 €

Eat Warsaw: Food Tour – Warsaw, Poland

Reviewed by FoodTourFinder!
See our review below in the Comments section

When you think about Polish cuisine, there is one thing that immediately pops up in your mind and that is definately “pierogi.” You come to Warsaw and (un)suprisingly you see that all English-speaking places offer them. Deep in your heart you know that there must be something more. If you want to discover real Polish cuisine, join Eat Warsaw tour.

The food tour gives you an opportunity to taste good Polish dishes and hear the stories behind them. You will learn why Poles complain about the quality of bread, why they somethimes long for food produced in the 70’s, why you can’t trust the invitation “for a cup of coffee.” You will visit 5 establishments, so be prepared for a full meal (and a dessert, of course). There will be also plenty of walking, so a pair of comfortable shoes would be a better option.

The tour is a friendly walk around the city with a Warsaw foodie, so think about is as discovering new city with a friend.

Hong Kong Foodie: Central & Sheung Wan Foodie Tour – Hong Kong, China

Taste your way through the old neighborhoods of Central and Sheung Wan. Along the 3.5-hour food tour, discover some of Hong Kong’s favorite food as you stroll along Hong Kong’s side streets and learn about how this area evolved from a fishing village to the colonial administration district to today’s international financial center. There will be six tasting locations and all food will be included in the ticket price of HK$600.

Savor the Food — Our journey will take us to six family-run tasting locations in the Central and Sheung Wan neighborhoods.  Each eatery has been specially selected not only to represent the best examples of Hong Kong cuisine but also for the unique and interesting stories behind them.  Samples of Hong Kong food and drinks are included in the ticket price.  We recommend that you eat a hearty breakfast or a light, early lunch before the food tour.  If you have any dietary preferences or restrictions, please indicate when you purchase your tickets.  Here’s a preview of what you’ll experience at our tasting locations:

Wonton Noodle Shop:  Mouth-watering wontons with fresh shrimp and noodles, served in soup prepared for hours from a family recipe will be the highlight of our first stop.  You will learn about what makes the wonton and the soup so special.

Roast Meat Restaurant:  Taste some succulent barbecued pork rice and find out how the owner can roast such juicy meat.

Fresh Juice:  Feeling a little tired? Sample some refreshing juice before continuing on our walk. Discover how the elements of this juice help balance the other tastings on the tour. We will share with you all the steps it takes to make this fresh juice. You might even catch a glimpse of the juicing process as well.

Tea House:  To help digestion, we will try a selection of “cha” (tea) at a private tea house set in a Chinese courtyard.  Learn about the different types of teas and how to prepare and serve them in the proper way practiced over centuries.

Dim Sum Corner:  Look for Hong Kong people’s favorites at this unique neighborhood dim sum house.  Savor a selection of dim sum, both steamed and fried, and check out others you could try when you return.

Local Bakery:  For dessert, taste one of the tarts hot out of the oven at this local bakery. They also serve a large variety of traditional Hong Kong baked goods.

Experience History, Architecture & Culture — Along our food tour, your local Foodie guide will share stories behind Hong Kong’s development, introduce you to important historical figures, and lead you to beautiful colonial architecture that still remains.  We will also tell you fun facts about Central & Sheung Wan and help you uncover an interesting, little shop hidden in the neighborhood that even most locals miss.  As we meander from one tasting location to another, we will also walk through an open market, watch how locals buy fresh fish and if you’re lucky, you might be able to take a peek of a cage of snakes in front of a shop selling snake soup and wine.

Who should take this Foodie Tour?

Our food tour is perfect for those who do not know what to try at a local restaurant but want to taste some of the best Hong Kong food.  Even if you know what to order, we will take you to some unique gems in Hong Kong that even many locals do not know about.  In addition, if you are curious about how some of these restaurants evolved and remained popular among locals for the last 60 years, our Foodie guides will show you a different side of this commercial area away from the busy shopping malls and typical sightseeing spots.
